Briefly describe your eating habits before getting more organized?
My huz and I would buy ready made meals from the grocery or wholesale club.  The
portions were huge, so usually we didn't use side dishes.  The fat and salt content
are astronomical, and we never ate salads. I couldn't seem to lose the weight from
our second child and I regularly begged off any physical exertion.  My Huz's doctor
put him on cholesterol medication.
Tell us about cleaning out your freezer?
We have a standing freezer.  To get rid of the already purchased meals, we invited
his brothers over to help us eat the food.  We also threw out a lot of frost-burned
leftovers.  We threw away things that were over 3 years old!  I even had some old
pumped breast milk hiding in there.
Which package do you prefer order from the Studio Kitchen and why?
My daughter and I came over to put our own meals together twice.  But then she
started college and so now we order a month's worth of entrees (72) already prepped
and frozen.  I can put the entrees into the freezer quite easily in the 3 portion size.
They stack on one or two shelves, and the bagged items go into the bottom basket
without any hassle.  I keep frozen veggie mixes from the wholesale club and
sometimes frozen potatoes.  We also add meatballs as a side dish to the vegetarian
entrees that we enjoy! I found that the 3 portion sized entrees also thaw more
effectvely than the six portion size.
What are you doing for sides?
I have a family of five, three adults and one young son (7) and one toddler (2).  The
six serving entrees give us too many left overs.  The three portion size, however,
gives everyone just the right amount of entree, and leaves room on the plate for a
starch (usually whole grain rice), steamed veggies (usually organic and seasonally
fresh), and the 3 adults also get a sizable fresh green salad.  The younger boys get a
bit of entree, veggie, and tomatoes and pine nuts.
Are you using our Mealplanner or any other meal planning method?
Not yet, but I am curious...
Do you eat together as a family?
We eat together more now than before.  Even with our busy schedule, I can time the
dinner entrees for Huz's arrival and daughter's school schedule very easily.  The
boys usually come running to the table for dinner!
What impact is The Studio Kitchen's food having on your life?
The biggest impact is on our health. Huz no longer needs his cholesterol meds, my
jeans are down to a size 10, daughter reports she has more energy and her jeans
are fitting better. The boys are exposed to more taste variety and textures than just
pasta and fries!
